Professional external rendering for homes across Hutton, Shenfield, Brentwood and the surrounding CM postcodes — delivered by a contractor with 30 years of experience.

Most people who ring us about a house in Hutton are weighing up two jobs rather than one. The outside of the house needs doing, the wall behind it is cold, and the scaffolding is only going up once. Whether you insulate at the same time as you render is the decision worth settling before anything else gets priced.
Plain render puts a new finish on the wall you already have. External wall insulation puts insulation on the outside of that wall and then renders over the top of it, so the finished house looks the same from the road but the masonry sits inside the warm side of the building instead of outside it. The work overlaps almost completely — same access, same scaffold, same team, same weeks of disruption.
That overlap is the argument. Doing the render now and the insulation in five years means paying for the access twice and losing a good finish to do it. Doing nothing for five years means paying to maintain a wall you have already decided you are unhappy with. The reason it comes up so often on CM13 houses is that the elevations here are large enough for the difference to be worth real money either way.
The build-up is thicker than straight render, and that has consequences you should hear about before you agree to anything rather than afterwards. Window and door reveals get narrower unless they are reformed. Sills may need extending so water still throws clear of the new face. Downpipes, meter boxes, vents, alarm boxes and external lights all come off and go back out further. On a wide detached frontage with bays and a porch there is simply more of that detailing to get right than there is on a terrace.
None of it is a reason not to do it — it is a reason to read the quote properly. Our external wall insulation page explains how the system goes together, and the itemised quote for your own house tells you which of those details we have allowed for.
Hutton runs straight into Shenfield without much of a break, and a lot of the housing along that stretch is substantial interwar and post-war detached and semi-detached property on established roads, with the larger detached stock around Hutton Mount at the top end of it. Big elevations ask for a few things that smaller ones do not: consistency of colour across a broad run of wall, careful setting-out so lines pick up with bay roofs and porch details, and enough scaffold to work the whole face rather than in awkward sections. A finish that would pass unnoticed on a small semi will be studied on a house like these.
Plenty of houses here have been rendered or pebble-dashed since the day they were built, which is an advantage more often than a problem. Period dash is normally sound underneath even when it looks tired, so we would usually leave it in place and build over the top of it with pinned mesh, which is anchored into the masonry instead of floating in the base coat, rather than hacking it off and carting it away. Where insulation is going on instead, the existing finish still has to be checked and made good before anything is fixed to it, because everything above depends on what is underneath being sound.
Thirty years of rendering experience, and a company that carries full insurance on every job it takes on. Manufacturer approved systems only — cheap material on an elevation this size is a false economy. Quotes come itemised, with a fixed total, so you can see what each part of the work costs and the number does not creep once the job has started. The scaffold sits on our side of the job, not yours. The number for a Hutton or Shenfield property is 07534 738068.
The area we cover takes in Hutton and everything around it: Shenfield next door in CM15, Brentwood beyond that, Billericay north-west in CM11 and CM12, and the villages out along the A12 including Ingatestone, where the older property makes for a different sort of job again — there is more on rendering village and period houses in Ingatestone if that sounds closer to your own. Shenfield station serves this whole stretch, and the A12 and A129 put most of CM13 within easy reach.
We regularly carry out rendering work throughout Hutton, Shenfield and Brentwood. Hutton Mount’s substantial 1930s detached houses frequently carry traditional pebble dash and smooth render elevations that are now due for renovation or a full re-render. Whether your home currently has bare brick, tired pebble dash or ageing render, we assess it honestly, recommend the right system, and deliver a finish that transforms the property and stands up to the local weather. We also regularly work in the following areas close to Hutton:
Yes — with external wall insulation the render is the outer part of the same system, so it is one visit, one scaffold and one finish rather than two separate projects. It is the main reason we ask about insulation at quote stage even when the enquiry was only about render: it is far cheaper to decide now than to revisit the wall later.
Usually it stays put. Pinned mesh will take a new finish over sound existing dash, so a large detached house does not have to be stripped back to bare masonry first — which on an elevation this wide is a job in itself. We check the dash over beforehand; loose or hollow areas get cut out and made good rather than covered up.
It matters more than most people expect, because insulation and render both finish up against the window frames, and doing them in the wrong order can mean cutting into new work.
Yes. Hutton, Shenfield and the roads between them are all within our normal working area, along with Brentwood, Billericay and Ingatestone. Larger detached houses on private roads take more setting-out and more scaffold than a standard semi, and that is reflected in the quote rather than being discovered partway through.
